Fun Facts on Spongebob Squarepants

This hub is dedicated to all you Spongebob fans out there! Here are some fun facts on our beloved yellow sponge but often mistaken as cheese, Spongebob Squarepants!!! =)

1. Originally, Spongebob was supposed to be named Spongeboy! Due to the fact that "Spongeboy" was already copyrighted as the name of guess what, a MOP, Stephen Hillenburg (the creator of SBSP) changed "Boy" to "Bob" and insisted to keep "sponge" in the name as he was afraid that kids might mistake Bob for a piece of yellow cheese!

2. Ok, for those of you who have watched almost every single episode of Bob, do you realise that almost every time someone throws something (or anything) away, you'll hear a glass breaking sound? Also, in chaotic crowd scenes, you almost always hear someone cry out "My leg!!!!!". Interesting eh?

3. Has anyone noticed that Squidward only has 6 tentacles? This means that Squid has too few tentacles to be a squid or an octopus! That's so sad!! So what does that make him? The artists thought that 8 tentacles looked weird, so they reduced the amount to 6. But Squidward is supposed to be an OCTOPUS, not a squid. Hmm, why name him SQUIDward then?

4. The voice of Plankton, Doug Lawrence, is also the voice for Larry the Lobster and the fish head, Johnny! In addition, comedian, Tom Kenny a.k.a. Patchy the Pirate plays voice of SBSP himself, Gary the snail, the French narrator and lots more!

5. SBSP has an impressive list of celebrity guests that appeared in some episodes:

• Pink (singer) - Pink appeared in a pirate costume while singing a pirate song in "Truth or Square" (from Season 6)
• Gene Simmons (singer & bassist of Kiss) - Gene appeared in "20,000 Patties Under the Sea" (from Season 5) as the voice of the Sea Monster
• Victoria Beckham and Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) - Victoria plays voice of Queen Amphitrite, while Sebastian plays her son, Triton in "The Clash of Triton" (from Season 7)
• Johnny Depp (actor) - Multi-award winning actor Depp plays voice of Jack Kahuna Laguna in "Spongebob vs The Big One" (from Season 6)
• Others: David Bowie, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, etc

6. Tom Kenny, voice of SBSP, creates Bob's distinctive laugh by first going "Ahhhhh..." and then hitting his throat continuously. Ahhhh... now we know!

7. Bob's creator, Hillenburg, actually thought that SBSP would not have made it to its second season. But look, Bob just celebrated its 10th year on TV!! Long live Spongebob!! =)

8. Hillenburg, who was a former marine biologist and teacher loved to draw marine life. He thought that sea sponges were the weirdest of all sea creatures. Due to the fact that the natural form and shape of a sea sponge didn't work well for a cartoon character, he chose to use a kitchen sponge instead!
