Pachelbel's Canon
66The Genius behind Canon
Canon: One of the best classical pieces of all time
How do we measure the success of a musician? Well, to me it's about the sustainability of his music, whether he has been forgotten or his music still lives on, throughout the years and generations... Whereby you can be dead for centuries yet commemorated everytime someone plays your everlasting piece.. Johann Pachelbel definitely still rocks now as an amazing musician who lived three centuries back... What are the chances of anyone regardless of age, not recognising Canon in D, whichever version it might be in, fast or slow tempoed, wind or string, cappella or instrumental rock?
I was motivated to write this hub as I am and will always be deeply in love with Canon. A priceless piece that stood the test of time.. As for any great composition, there will always be cover versions. Here are some of the different renditions of Pachelbel's Canon that I believe did justice to the original composition. Which is your favourite? =)
Rather than featuring anonymous musicians, I thought it would be great to give credit to some home made videos by talented musicians.. These videos are awesome!

Alrite!! Let's jazz things up a little here! Introducing Canon Rock!! If you youtube canon rock, you'll see many covers of it but let's feature the original musician, Jerry Chang! Check out his melodic licks and awesome phrasings!

The next video is my personal favourite.I am a huge fan of G3 (featuring legendary guitarists Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen) although I'm not exactly sure if this version's really by them. However, if it is, I got to say Malmsteen and Vai's dual take on this piece is awesome!
And... last but not least.. the cappella rendition of the all time favourite Canon.. Perfect for weddings! Gave me goose bumps the first time I heard it. DO NOT give this next video a miss.. I saved the best for last. Presenting Libera, an all-boy choir, with their soul-reaching Locus Iste, inspired by Pachelbel's Canon.... enjoy!
